Spare BX Creek Wetland Petition

The B.C. Ministry of Transportation & Infrastructure wants to extend Vernon's 20th Street (behind Rona) through the BX Creek Delta Wetland, connecting with Frontage Road (the auto dealer strip) as part of their solution to dangerous left turns onto Highway 97 from Stickle Road. This portion of 20th Street would be a south-bound only road. It's construction would be through the middle of this small wetland. The roadbed, the road itself and sidewalks would reduce the wetland to little more than ditches. A very popular boardwalk trail also runs through the wetland and this would be replaced by sidewalks. People would loose a treasured greenspace which is very well used by walkers, runners, dog walkers, photographers, nature enthusiasts and commuters on foot or bike. It is an area filled with birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians and plants. This is not THE solution to Stickle Road. The ministry would have to do other road works as well now and in the future as Vernon grows. There is so little to be gained and so much to lose. Mr. Minister think long term and think outside the box. It's not worth losing another wetland for this!
